Being Your Authentic Self Always Wins

Staying true to your authentic self will always lead to success, even when fear creeps in. This past weekend, I hosted my very first all- Women’s High Performance experience, and I won’t lie—there were nerves. For the last five years, my brand has followed a specific path, and stepping into new territory felt like a leap. But it was time to push boundaries and elevate what we’ve built. High Performance Experiences was ready to add a new layer to an already thriving business, one that felt uniquely for women.

Time Is Our Most Valuable Resource

The sooner we realize that time is finite, the sooner we can begin to live a life of true fulfillment. This past weekend, I attended the funeral of a 12-year-old boy who lost his battle with cancer. It was an incredibly difficult service, especially since I’ve known the family my entire life. As I sat there, my heart went out to them, and I couldn’t help but reflect on the unimaginable grief they must be feeling. As I left the funeral home, I couldn’t shake the thought that the only thing that truly matters in life is the time we have left with the people we love. Time is our most precious resource, and if you speak to anyone older than you, they’ll often express the same regret: a wish to have more time, to turn back the clock, to relive moments they can never get back.

Business & Markets Update

Happy MLK Day / Happy Inauguration Day … Hope everyone enjoys their Monday and you’re able to charge up for the week ahead!! Let’s jump into it, plenty to get to.

It was a big week of ‘data points’ last week… lots of data.  Wednesday’s December inflation report (CPI) felt like by far the most important economic data point of the year so far.  Core CPI came in light vs expectations, which helped ease some inflationary fears, and stocks were off to the races, up up & away.  This helped move treasury yields lower, after a multi-week run higher.  The yield on 10yr treasuries traded from 4.80% to 4.60%, a significant 5-day move.

Why Meal Timing is Overrated

In the world of fitness, nutrition trends and advice come and go, but one concept that’s persisted for years is meal timing, or what’s often referred to as nutrient timing. The idea is that when you consume certain nutrients—particularly protein and carbohydrates—can have a significant impact on your performance, muscle growth, fat loss, and overall health.

Interview with Brian Mazza

Founder of HPLT

After spending many years in the hospitality industry, I found myself feeling unfulfilled. I longed to reconnect with the energy and passion of my D1 soccer days, so I decided to merge my love for events, personal connections, and fitness. My goal was to create a space that combined all of these elements to foster a sustainable community. The vision for HPLT has always been to begin with summits, then expand into investments, a performance club, and a marketing company.

Adversity Is Blind & Community Is Everything

Adversity is blind, personal, and always arrives without warning. It can strike suddenly, knocking us down and forcing us to rebuild our lives—much like we had to rebuild our home after an unexpected fire.

In those moments, we realize how deeply we depend on our community. Unfortunately, it often takes hitting rock bottom or facing catastrophe for us to truly understand how fragile life is. This past week, the world saw the devastation caused by the massive wildfires sweeping through California, destroying entire neighborhoods. I never thought it could happen to me or my family—until it did.

Business & Markets Update

We.. are.. BACK!  After a slower last couple weeks of ‘24 during Christmas and New Years (HNY everyone!!), 2025 is off & running and there is no shortage of news flow or market volatility to kick things off.

This past week was a 4-day trading week with equities closed on Thursday for our 39th President Jimmy Carter's Funeral, a long-standing tradition known as a ‘National Day of Mourning’.  Stocks were lower on the week, with the S&P posting a -2% move and the tech-heavy Nasdaq -2.34%.

Interview with Sahil Bloom

Investor | Entrepreneur | Author

There is scientific evidence that the people you surround yourself with determine your outcomes. The Pygmalion Effect is a behavior phenomenon that says that we rise or fall to the level of the expectations people have for us. If you surround yourself with a community of big thinkers who believe you are capable of more, you will rise to the level of those expectations. That is the power of community, plain and simple. I’ve seen it over and over again in my life. When I am around winners, I find myself winning.

Practicing Solitude Is Your Best Investment

We often don’t get enough time to ourselves anymore. We're constantly consumed by our devices, living vicariously through others. The fear of missing out (FOMO) haunts us because we’re trained to compare our own lives to those who seem to have it all figured out or a “better situation.”

Why You Should Avoid Cardio If Your Goal Is to Lose Body Fat

When most people think about losing body fat, their minds often jump straight to cardio. Interview with Bill Shufelt

Co-Founder and CEO of Athletic Brewing Co.

The funny thing is, I never aspired to be an entrepreneur - like the concept never even crossed my mind until I was one. The inspiration for Athletic Brewing was all about the potential to have a positive impact on the health & happiness of millions of people. In my prior career (hedge funds, which I loved), I never had the chance to have a positive impact on anyone. When I turned 30 and was about to get married, I found myself on this path of personal progress and self-improvement like I'd never been before..

Stop Lying To Yourself

As 2024 comes to a close, whether it’s been a good, bad, or just "meh" year, one thing is certain: come Tuesday at midnight, it’s over. You’re either finishing with a dull tool or you’ve sharpened your skills, ready for what’s next. So, what is next? Is it the tired “New Year, New Me” because you need change, or because your old habits haven’t served you (again)? Or is it “New Year, Let’s F’in Go,” because you’ve already built the positive habits that are setting you up to win? Ultimately, that’s all in the past. You can only look ahead. You can either focus on progress or decline, and the truth is, most people choose the latter.
