August Starts Tomorrow
Tomorrow is August 1.
If you live in the Northeast, that means something.
One more month of summer before backpacks come out, alarms get set, and fall sports take over.
For parents, this is where the wheels can fall off.
Maybe July was filled with late nights, too much food, too many drinks, and zero routine and the belly and back fat have grown.
Maybe your big summer vacation is still ahead of you.
Maybe you’ve been saying, “We’ll get back on track after…”
But here’s the truth:
August 1 is showing up whether you’re ready or not.
The question isn’t whether the calendar changes.
The question is whether your family changes with it.
Ask yourself:
Will these next four weeks set my family up for the best school year and fall sports season possible?
One of the simplest things we’ve ever implemented is a Family Accountability Calendar.
Every person in the house gets their own list:
3 non-negotiables every morning
Make your bed
Eat a high-protein breakfast
Read for 10 minutes
3 non-negotiables every evening
Pack tomorrow’s bag
Lay out clothes
No screens before bed
The key isn’t copying someone else’s list.
The key is making it personal.
Your goals shouldn’t be the same as your spouse’s.
Your 8-year-old shouldn’t have the same expectations as your teenager.
Build the habits around the person.
Then hold each other accountable.
I’ve done this with families for years, and it works.
Not because it’s complicated.
Because consistency beats motivation every single time.
Don’t wait until Labor Day to build momentum.
By then, you’ll already be chasing the season.
Use August to create the routines your family will rely on all fall.
Crush August.
