The Noise Is Just Noise
A few days ago, the critics were celebrating.
Portugal fell flat against Congo.
The headlines came quickly.
Cristiano Ronaldo is too old.
He’s selfish.
He’s slowing the team down.
He’s hurting more than helping.
The same people who have spent the last twenty years watching greatness suddenly became experts on why it was over.
Then came the next match.
Cool as a cucumber, Ronaldo walked onto the field and scored a brace.
Two goals.
No emotional response.
No press conference defending himself.
No social media rant.
Just work.
Just results.
And somehow, even after scoring twice, there are still pundits unwilling to give him the flowers he deserves.
But that’s the point.
The greatest performers eventually learn a lesson that most people never do:
You don’t need everyone to believe in you.
You only need to believe in yourself.
The crowd is emotional.
The crowd changes its opinion every week.
One bad game and you’re finished.
One great game and you’re back.
One mistake and you’re a failure.
One success and you’re a genius.
If you spend your life listening to the crowd, you’ll spend your life confused.
Because the crowd doesn’t know your preparation.
They don’t know your sacrifice.
They don’t know the work you put in when nobody is watching.
The older I get, the more I realize that confidence isn’t something people give you.
It’s something you earn through evidence.
You know the miles you’ve run.
You know the reps you’ve completed.
You know the promises you’ve kept to yourself.
And when you know you’ve done the work, the noise becomes exactly what it is:
Noise.
Not information.
Not truth.
Not reality.
Just noise.
The people who accomplish extraordinary things aren’t immune to criticism.
They’ve simply learned not to rent space in their minds to people who have never stepped into the arena.
So if you’re building something right now, if you’re chasing a goal, if you’re trying to become a better parent, leader, athlete, or entrepreneur, understand this:
The noise never goes away.
The doubters never disappear.
The critics never stop talking.
Your job isn’t to silence them.
Your job is to keep showing up until your work becomes louder than their words.
Nothing Changes If Nothing Changes.
