Hammer and Nail

Some days you are the hammer.

Some days you are the nail.

The problem is most people only want to identify with the hammer.

They want to be the one applying pressure.
The one dictating pace.
The one landing the hit.

But life does not work that way.

You will not always be the hammer.

And honestly, you should not want to be.

Even steel gets worn down when it is constantly striking something. Strength does not mean you never feel impact. Strength means you know how to absorb it without losing your shape.

But you also cannot live your life as the nail.

Because being on the receiving end of constant hits mentally, emotionally, physically, spiritually will break most people over time.

There has to be a balance.

There are seasons where you attack.

There are seasons where you absorb.

There are seasons where you lead from the front.

There are seasons where you get humbled, tested, and reminded that you are still being built.

This is why you set an unbreakable standard.

Because eventually life will test it.

That is why you build body armor before life demands it.

Mentally.
Physically.
Emotionally.
Spiritually.

Because during the seasons of humility, when the hits keep coming and motivation disappears, your standards become the thing that carries you forward.

Not hype.
Not emotion.
Not motivation.

Standards.

The people who continue the good fight are not always the strongest.
They are the ones who trained themselves to withstand pressure without abandoning themselves.

The goal is not to always be the hammer.

The goal is to become the kind of person who can survive being the nail without forgetting they were made of steel.

Nothing Changes if Nothing Changes.
